If you have a last.fm account and you scrobble your music, soundamus lets you know when new music is being released from your last.fm data. All you have to do is put in your last.fm user name and it generates an rss feed, which you can then add to your favorite reader.

You can also add the info to your google, outlook or windows calendar.

"Mixing 1980s SF dystopia with electronica, this year's Meltdown Festival in the UK will include a couple of performances that may be of interest to fans of Philip K. Dick, Ridley Scott or DJ-friendly orchestras. The annual festival, this year curated by Massive Attack, coffee-table favorites and creators of the House theme music. Plus the festival will give fans even a special one-off IMAX screening of Blade Runner: The Final Cut along with a hipper, younger version of the soundtrack.

As well as gigs by such disparate acts as Funkadelic, Elbow, Grace Jones and Terry Callier, the festival - running from the 14th to the 22nd of June in venues across London - will include a collaboration between the Heritage Orchestra and Massive Attack, performing Vangelis' complete soundtrack to Ridley Scott's 1982 adaptation of Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?.

The Heritage Orchestra, a 45-piece orchestra dedicated to blurring boundaries between musical genres, describe themselves as having a "unique approach [that integrates] the rules of jazz, electronica, DJ-Culture and contemporary-classical" and have previously worked with acts like Amon Tobin and Plaid. For the Meltdown performance, their music will be mixed live by Massive Attack who will, undoubtedly, be channeling the spirit of the synthesizer sound of the original into the evening.

Of course, if you'd rather hear something with more bass, don't worry; Adrian Sherwood's DJing the Stiff Little Fingers gig the next night. Limited tickets for the various events go on sale this Thursday, with a wide release the following day."

This album is pretty neat-o. Turkish psychedelic folk-rock from 1974. She belts with conviction. Fuzzy guitars, the saz, pretty funky drumming and some early synth sounds.

Selda Bagcan was/is a protest folk musician who has been imprisoned a number of times because of her music.

Almost a year ago I discovered StumbleUpon and for a couple months I had my fix of distractions and the security in knowing a click would take me to new lands of discovery. Then it started cycling and I shrugged meh. I'm sure it's blossomed to the size of Gilbert Grape's mom by now but all I need is another distraction.
So from the vaults of my Stumble folder I beseech the classic Bush Falls created by PlanetDan.
Ragdoll physics + Randomly placed spheres = a lost hour that feels like 5 minutes.
Drag on Bush and you can fling him off the screen to come back into limbo and with experienced mouse-work you can make him hump a ball.So here's the link. Added to his arsenal are Falling Hillary and Falling Hillary in a bikini
The rest of his site is great though. He has a book called "Stoned on Jesus" and an admirably honest book about how babies are born in Germany.

Fooled around with remixing 2 different versions of a song called Love Dance composed by Martin Denny.
There's another version sung by Sondi Sodsai.
Still need to spice up the drums, add a couple more sounds but here's a couple versions so far.

I made this one night in a couple of days (if not the same night) of my Grandfather's passing near xmas some years ago. The segment below is just a free-writing thing I do every once in awhile. I thought it complemented the song well and I wanted to honor him since it's that time of year.
Celebrate one's Life! Not mourn their Death!

Bill trampled through the door. He could see a mound of dirty laundry in front of it;
like a blockade. Why and how it was still there didn't make sense,
but he needed his box and he knew the keep-safe would be protected from the fire.
It looked like it started from the radio; that old radio in the living room. He remembered sitting in front of it; a young boy with his older brother, younger sister, mother and father; all of them more in amazement from the new technology than what was playing, it seemed. Two houses later; two lifetimes later... but on he went upstairs weaving through the patches of black crust and the Untouched; brown carpet and pieces of furniture; the yellow walls from smoking cigarettes over time; and in the living room; soot-made shadows in his peripheral vision that seemed to say "we've taken over now, this is our home." It all looked more like a plague of mold had consumed neglected space over time. Barely any of this mattered though. The radio had its time, but his keep-safe... and then he realized the framed photographs on the way up; 3 generations. They were faded of course, but the pictures were fine... and they did matter; he was welling.

I came across this site looking for info on Nitrada (after hearing the Telefon Tel Aviv Remix of Fading Away) called Electronic Music Interface, "a (mostly uncommented) collection of selected ideas, environments and examples for musical interaction." There's are a few interesting videos to watch, including one where a guy uses the magnetic strip on his drivers license as a midi controller. You can also find out how to use a Wiimote (bluetooth) for controlling midi and programs. Apart from the novelty value it'd be interesting to see artists use these in different ways while still keeping the music from being a random twitch-fest.... Scroll to 3:04 to see immediate action with some ol skool phatness.

When I heard this on vinyl the other night I was transported to high school in the early eighties (the vinyl and alcohol helped), except I wasn't in high school in the eighties. I still remember the 80's though; the high-tops, tight-rolled whitewash jeans, hairspray and gel, John Hughes, lotsa make-up, Ronald Reagan, Kurt Loder, cocaine...and I saw myself talking to a friend while popping gum at their locker asking if his older sister Molly is going to drive us to the show on Friday...

Yes there is an obvious Ramones influence and I am partial to a few certain songs but it's overall pretty rocking and still worth mentioning. Also it doesn't have the same impact as hearing it on vinyl...
